A breathtaking cycling tour in the Gargano peninsula in the Puglia region, one of the most unknown and still uncontaminated areas of the small heel of Italy. The Apulian promontory, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, boasts a cultural and natural heritage to be discovered.
This is a tour with not very long  but with significant differences in height. This is why we have chosen to offer it on e-bikes: such enchanting places, still little traveled by cyclists, must be able to be enjoyed by everyone. With our pedal assisted bikes, anyone can tackle each stage in complete relaxation, continuously in contact with nature, in a surprising succession of sea and mountains.
Those who have a good workout and feel the desire to push on the pedals can of course contact us and choose our trekking or racing bikes.

DIFFICULTY:

Given the conformation of the Gargano area, the itinerary is designed to be traveled with pedal assisted bicycles, so that everyone can enjoy their holiday in peace. But of course we offer the possibility to rent our trekking or racing bikes to all those who feel trained and ready to face the differences in height present on the tracks for cycling in Gargano.

Itinerary

Day 1MONTE SANT'ANGELO

Arrival and accommodation in Monte Sant’Angelo.

Briefing and bike fit with an operator of our local partner

Day 2MONTE SANT'ANGELO - MORNING +/- 50 KM

After leaving the UNESCO site of Monte Sant’Angelo , you will begin a spectacular descent towards the sea, which you will reach at Siponto , a place famous for its archaeological park with the remains of an early Christian basilica and the innovative installation in metal mesh. work of the young Lombard artist Edoardo Tresoldi who recalls its forms. But the Manfredonia district is also a famous seaside resort. From here you will cycle with the sea at your side, on the coast of the Gulf of Manfredonia , which takes its name from the city of the same name south of the Gargano promontory, also known as « Porta del Gargano » for its position. Your destination is Mattinata , a town included in Gargano National Park .

+/- 400 meters in altitude

Day 3MORNING - VIESTE  +/- 51 KM

Your day starts from the beautiful old town of Mattinata , known as  » Junno » The rest of the day will be a breathtaking ride close to the sea. Between breaks and small detours, you can discover the high cliffs, pebble beaches, stacks and caves that characterize this coastal stretch of the Gargano. At the end of the ride, Vieste , the easternmost town of the Gargano promontory, awaits you . Its historic center perched on the crystalline sea will enchant you.

+/- 950 meters in altitude

Day 4VIESTE - RODI GARGANICO  +/- 40 KM

You will leave Vieste for another spectacular ride on the coast, in the northern part of the Gargano promontory. Halfway through the journey, a stop in Peschici is a must , a village rich in history, famous for its trabucchi , wooden structures suspended over the sea, once used for fishing and now recovered as scenographic restaurants. It seems that if the sky is clear, from Vieste you can see some islands of Croatia and the peaks of the Maiella. We hope you are lucky! The last part of the day by bike will still be a track close to the sea, which will take you to Rodi Garganico , another coastal center of the Gargano National Park, famous for the production of citrus fruits since the Middle Ages. It will be another of the scents that you will keep as a souvenir of this holiday.

Day 5RODI GARGANICO - MORNING  +/- 45 KM

Perhaps at first you will leave the sea reluctantly, but then the green sea of the Gargano National Park will conquer you. This stage, which cuts the P romontorio del Gargano in two , is the worthy conclusion of a journey to discover a luxuriant and uncontaminated nature and characteristic villages. After a few kilometers from the start of the ride, in fact, you will stop in Carpino , a center that is part of the Gargano Mountain Community and famous for the Carpino Folk Festival, an event dedicated to Italian popular music. You will then cross a part of the protected area of the Park which extends for 120,000 hectares, close to the Umbra Forest . Breathe in deeply before returning to Mattinata , the final milestone of the tour.
